I’m testing out something new this month, a work in progress, if you’d care to join me for a couple of intimate shows in London and Edinburgh?
I spend so much time talking at gigs that I’ve decided to make something that explicitly combines songs, old stories and spoken word. Wind Resistance has come together with the backing of a beautiful boutique scale festival called “Breathe". It’s a ten-day exploration of wind and air and breath at The Old Church in Hackney (where a wind harp will be installed in the spire for the duration).
Wind Resistance will take you to the Fala Flow bog lands outside my home village of Pathhead, whilst combining the science of goose migration, robin myths and northern wind lore with new and old songs. It’s all wrapped up into a 40 minute sung and spoken exploration of what this might tell us about empathy and community in our 21st-century world.
Oh … and then I’ll play a second set of songs inspired by the wind!
It’s a bit of a creative experiment for me, and I’ll be looking explicitly for feedback - over a complimentary post-show glass of wine - on what works and what doesn’t. You’d be most welcome.
